The crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many areas of urban life. More than half of the population of our planet has been in home isolation, many people have lost their jobs. Certainly, a mass lockdown has had an impact on the issues of safety in cities and human settlements.
Restrictions on movement, loss of income, high level of stress and anxiety create social unrest that, in turn, affects indicators of the level of violence in families. Besides, existing economic limitations have triggered an upsurge of violence, public disorder, looting and other crimes during the pandemic.
Measures to be undertaken by local and regional governments to ensure safety of citizens were discussed by participants of the UCLG webinar “Reimagining Public Safety in the Face of Emerging Crisis in Cities”. This online conference took place on the Zoom platform on June 25, 2020.
