General Secretary OF UCLG AT THE at the northern forum

Today, on September 29, the Secretary General of the UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov spoke at the Third International "Northern Forum on Sustainable Development".

The main theme of the 2021 Forum is "Climate change and the response of permafrost". This year, 72 events were organized in 4 main blocks. Special attention is paid to the 30th anniversary of the international organization of the northern regions "Northern Forum" with a meeting of the Committee of Regional Coordinators of the organization and the conference "30 years of caring for the North: achievements and prospects".

Rasikh Sagitov spoke about how the Eurasia Section of the UCLG contributes to the issues of increasing the resilience of cities in Eurasia, as well as about the participation of the Eurasia Section in the implementation of the tripartite project of the World Organization of the UCLG, the Global Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy (GCOM), as well as the organization "Local Governments for Sustainability" (ICLEI).

"I believe that the Republic of Sakha should be at the head of the processes to prevent climate change and loudly declare itself from the international rostrums. Yakutia can claim to be a world leader in solving Arctic issues", - said the Secretary General of the Eurasia Section of the UCLG.

Olga Epifanova, member of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Northern Territories and the Arctic Zone; Dmitry Korostelev, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kamchatka Territory; Svetlana Lipina, Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Study of Productive Forces of the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, made their reports during the discussion; Natalia Ryazanova, Head of the Laboratory of the Department of International Complex Problems of Environmental Management and Ecology of MGIMO, member of the Public Council of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, and Oleg Solyakov, Chairman of the working group of the Arctic Council for Sustainable Development of the Arctic (SDWG).

Also, after the speeches, Rasikh Sagitov presented certificates of entry of five districts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) into the Eurasia Section of the UCLG. Certificates were awarded to Nikita Andreev, the head of the Gorny ulus, Lena Ivanova, the head of the Oleneksky ulus, Anatoly Grigoriev, the head of the Suntarsky ulus, Alexey Fedotov, the head of the Ust-Aldansky ulus and Oleg Irineev, the head of the Khangalassky ulus.

"The activities of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) are truly international, global and global, involving not only the Government, but the cities and uluses of the republic," Rasikh Sagitov said.

Recall that the Third International "Northern Forum on Sustainable Development" is being held in Yakutsk on September 27-30 in a face-to-face and remote format. The Forum is included in the Action Plan of the Russian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council for 2021-2023.
