Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of the UCLG Eurasia Section, paid working visits to cities in Southern Russia and the North Caucasus on May 24-28, 2021.
On May 26, during a meeting with the leadership of Krasnodar, Rasikh Sagitov expressed his admiration for the rapid growth and development of the city. He presented the book of international cooperation to the Chairman of the City Duma of Krasnodar Vera Galushko, where the city of Krasnodar, which has been a member of the UCLG-Eurasia since 2004, is represented.
The book contains information about the development of international relations between cities in Russia and Eurasia, information about the structural divisions of municipalities responsible for external relations, their leaders, information about the city's membership in international organizations, major international events that took place in the city, international awards, as well as some interesting facts about the city.
The business visit to the city of Stavropol took place on May 27, 2021. The parties discussed the areas of cooperation. The head of the Stavropol administration, Ivan Ulyanchenko, assured of his commitment to the activities of the UCLG and expressed his intention to continue to support the work of the organization. Rasikh Sagitov noted the active position of Stavropol on participation in international events and high-level political dialogues. He presented the mayor of the city Ivan Ulyanchenko with a diploma for the honorary third place among large cities (with a population of 100,000 to 499,999 people) in the Rating of international activity of municipalities.
Recall that in 2019-2020, the Section conducted a Study of the international activity of municipalities. Its purpose is to identify how cities work towards the development of international relations and which ones do it better than others. At the same time, the main emphasis is placed on the activities of local authorities. The study resulted in recommendations for the development of international relations of municipalities and a rating of international activity.
It is worth noting that in this rating, the city of Magas became the leader among small towns (with a population of up to 19,999 people). The first-place diploma was presented by the Secretary General of the Eurasia Section to the Mayor of Magas, Usman Aushev, during his visit to the capital of Ingushetia on May 27.
The fruitful business visit ended with a meeting with the Head of the municipality of Vladikavkaz Ruslanbek Kuzmich. The parties discussed a wide range of issues in terms of cooperation and further interaction of the municipality at the international level. Rasikh Sagitov invited the city's leadership to the Congress of Local Governments of Eurasia, which will be held on May 24-26 in Yakutsk. The agenda includes a meeting of the General Assembly and discussion of major global issues such as health, waste management, preservation of culture and heritage, development of resilience and combating climate change.
Also, on May 24-25, meetings were held with the leadership of Sochi and Anapa. The deputy Mayor of Anapa, Vitaly Voronov, spoke about a new development that allows the use of quadrocopters to deliver lifebuoys to drowning people at sea. Rasikh Sagitov assured of the need to expand international cooperation through participation in the work of the UCLG World Organization and in the international municipal movement. During the meetings, both cities expressed interest in cooperating with UCLG and participating in high-level events.
