The Future We Want Towards #UN75

The second and final day of the UCLG Executive Bureau meetings has come to an end. The participants of virtual round tables have discussed statutory issues including the organization’s work plan in the context of the pandemic, outcomes of contests and awards, as well as holding the UCLG World Council this October. Despite the probability that due to the tense epidemiologic situation the World Council would have to be organized online, the organizers have assured that the event will be mainly broadcast from the Chinese city of Guangzhou as planned earlier.

The participants have focused on the discussion of the UCLG’s Report on the vision of the future by 2045. It should be reminded that UCLG is preparing a report on behalf of local and regional governments upon the request of Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and will present it at the UN General Assembly in New York in September. Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Amarsaykhan Saynbuyangiyn has presented the vision of Eurasia formed as a result of consultations with local and regional governments of the Eurasian region. “For our Eurasian region, the 75th anniversary of the UN is, first of all, the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Second World War. The price of these 75 years of peace is immensely high! Therefore, first of all, in 2045 and further in the future, we would like to see a peaceful sky above our heads,” Mayor of Ulaanbaatar emphasized in his speech.

Vice-Mayor of Kazan Evgeniya Lodvigova has expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants of the UCLG Executive Bureau, as well as words of encouragement on behalf of all Eurasia municipalities at this difficult time.

In addition, it is important to stress that the project of Ulaanbaatar “The Week of Public Art” has been recognized as a special mention by the jury of the International Award UCLG – Mexico – Culture 21. This project is dedicated to art and its link with key modern trends: migration, democratization, climate change, etc. Over 80 cities have submitted applications for the Award this year. Among them are such Eurasian cities as Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Magas, Stavropol, Yakutsk, etc.

At the Executive Bureau meetings, UCLG-Eurasia has been represented by Secretary General Rasikh Sagitov, Minister of External Relations and Ethnic Affairs of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Gavril Kirillin, Chairman of the Stavropol City Duma Georgy Kolyagin, Mayor of Izhevsk Oleg Bekmemetyev, Vice-Mayor of Osh Zhasur Azimov, Mayor of Rostov-on-Don Zinaida Neyarokhina, Mayor of Yekaterinburg Aleksandr Vysokinsky, Mayor of Astrakhan Alena Gubanova, Mayor of Samara Elena Lapushkina, First Deputy Chairman of the Grozny City Duma Magomed-Ali Turaev and others.
