On February 26-27, 2019 in the Turkish city of Istanbul UCLG-MEWA Retreat participated by the staff, members and partners of the section took place.
Within the framework of the event Tansylu Nurieva, Project Coordinator of UCLG-Eurasia presented the initiative on the Research of Cities’ International Activity, which geography this year will expand encompassing besides the Eurasian region the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
On the first day of the Retreat the results of the past year were summed up, priorities of the section for 2019 as well as preparation for 7th Policy Forum on Development were discussed.
On the second day participants of the event discussed the issues of migration and social cohesion, fight against and adapting to climate change, local development and governance. Representatives of local governments told about best practices in achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The honorary guest of the Retreat was Kadir Topbas who from 2010 to 2016 was the President of the World Organization of UCLG as well as the Founding President of UCLG-MEWA. In his speech Kadir Topbas told about the process of defining the Agenda 2030.
