On August 30-31 the employees of the Secretariat of Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments" took part in the Module II of the training on Resilience (Global Training of Trainers), which is based on the work of the UCLG on localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The training included lectures, exercises, as well as the joint development of the program. The training was conducted for employees of the regional secretariats so that they could conduct similar trainings for local governments in the future.
The second module was based on material about actions and strategies that can be used in practice, which was a great addition to the first module. The training covered the topics of resilience in social and cultural policy, strategic and urban planning, climate action, and recovery after COVID-19. In this way, participants learned how cities can develop their own strategies and plans of actions.
On behalf of Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments" lectures were delivered by Saida Zagidullina, UCLG-Eurasia Development Director, and Tansylu Nurieva, UCLG-Eurasia Project Coordinator. They reported about strengthening regional and environmental resilience.
Recall that the Module I of the resilience training (Global Training of Trainers) was held in December 2020 and lasted three days. In the first module, the participants got acquainted with the basic concepts on the topic "resilience".
The training modules present a systematic approach to building resilience and disaster risk management, underscoring the key role of city governments in achieving sustainable and inclusive development. They also recognize the important role that local and regional government associations have to play in creating an enabling environment at the national and international levels so that local governments can implement flexible, locally focused resilience strategies.
