Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov awarded the diploma for the first place among large cities of Eurasia and Middle East in the Rating of Cities’ International Activity for 2019 to the city district of Mytishchi represented by Mayor Viktor Azarov.
“The award is well-deserved”, highlighted Rasikh Sagitov. “Mytishchi is one of the leaders among Russian cities in terms of international activity. Besides, Mayor of the district takes active part in all events of the global municipal movement”.
He also reminded that the global movement of municipalities originated 100 years ago since the beginning of the collaboration of cities of France and Netherlands. Russia joined the movement over 30 years ago. This movement aims to make the opinion of local governments be taken into account in the global decision-making process.
Viktor Azarov thanked Secretary General for visiting Mytishchi and granting the award. “This diploma is not only the assessment of our work. It obliges us in relation to our partners. In spite of the pandemic, we will continue to communicate with twin cities online. We have considerable experience in terms of international links, and we are always ready to cooperate,” Viktor Azarov noted.
During his official visit, Rasikh Sagitov attended the exhibition of the Museum of History and Fine Arts in Mytishchi and an anniversary photo exhibition of partner cities. The exhibition includes 55 works dedicated to the celebration of the anniversary of the Great Victory in cities, with which Mytishchi has established partner relations. “Here are presented the photos made by Italians, Belarusians, Poles, Germans, Czechs and, of course, by citizens of Mytishchi. This is very impressive,” Secretary General highlighted.
