UCLG-Eurasia supports the preservation of native languages

Today, on December 6, a working meeting of the Secretariat of UCLG-Eurasia dedicated to linguistic diversity has been held. As is well known, the UN declared 2022-2032 the Decade of Indigenous Languages, and 2021 in the Republic of Tatarstan was announced the year of preservation of native languages. In this regard, during the year, meetings of the staff of the UCLG-Eurasia Secretariat have been held in three languages: Russian, Tatar, and English.

Today's meeting has taken place in Tatar with the participation of Deputy of the State Council of Tatarstan, member of the Commission for the Preservation and Development of the Tatar Language Kamil Nugaev and Professor, PhD in Politics, Head of the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Law of Kazan State Energy University Nail Mukharyamov.

The participants stressed the importance of preserving linguistic diversity in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and noted that ensuring the human right to communicate, receive education and use digital services in their native language contributes to the achievement of equality in rights and corresponds to the principle "leave no one behind" defined in the global 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
