A delegation of UNICEF visited UCLG World Secretariat in Barcelona on January 14-15, 2019, to discuss a further strategic partnership. The joint cooperation should support local governments in the development of child-sensitive policies and youth and children participation in local decision-making.
David Anthony, Chief Policy Analysis at UNICEF, highlighted how important the increasing role of local governments in the protection of children and youth has been, in an increasingly urbanized world. He presented UNICEF’s experience in working with local governments in various dimensions and, particularly, the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative.
UCLG-Eurasia members also actively cooperate with international organizations. Thus, on March 11, 2019, Taalaibek Sarybashov, Mayor of Osh, met with UN and UNICEF representatives in the Kyrgyz Republic. During the meeting, the parties discussed the results of joint activities on the implementation of programs and projects, as well as future plans for bilateral cooperation. One of the examples of the joint cooperation is the opening of the multifunctional “Help Center for Children” last year.
