In 2022, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will present a report on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Considering the importance of this strategic document, last year UCLG initiated the creation of a new Policy Council on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda. President of UCLG-Eurasia, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was elected co-chairman of the committee, and the chairman of the Ulyanovsk City Duma Ilya Nozechkin became its member.

The first meeting of the Council took place on February 12, 2021, in an online format. Speaking to the participants of the meeting, Ilsur Metshin noted that the New Urban Agenda is closely related to the main priorities of the UNACLA, which he heads. ‘UNACLA should become a platform on which a structured dialogue between local and regional authorities is carried out based on the representation of associations of local and regional authorities and the governing bodies of UN-Habitat to develop proposals, putting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda at the forefront’, Ilsur Metshin said.

Among the participants of the meeting were UCLG Secretary General Emilia Saiz, President of SALGA and Mayor of Polokwane (South Africa) Thembisile Nkadimeng, Mayor of Kitchener Berry Vrbanovic, etc.
