Two events significant for UCLG were held in the beginning of April. On 3-5 April, the UCLG Culture Summit took place in Buenos Aires (Argentina). During the Summit the idea of culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development was highlighted.
For the first time, the UCLG Culture Summit counted with political debates hosted by the Policy Councils of UCLG, with the aim of integrating the cultural dimension at the heart of the organization’s political debates.
An important event of the Summit was the session “Cultural and Natural Heritage in Cities”. During this session Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia, presented a report on heritage conservation.
“As the Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia and the Regional Coordinator for Euro-Asia of the Organization of World Heritage Cities, I clearly realize that cultural and natural heritage is a significant force for the sustainable development of cities. That is why since the day of its foundation UCLG-Eurasia actively cooperates with OWHC”, - Rasikh Sagitov said in his speech.
The working meetings of the UCLG Executive Bureau began on the morning of April 6. During the meetings, UCLG members discussed preparations for the World Congress in Durban and the current political priorities of the organization.
