Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments"
The World Organization "United Cities and Local Governments" announces the start of accepting applications for the posts of President, co-presidents and Treasurer of the UCLG.
Given the importance that the World Organization attaches to equality and gender balance, female candidates are encouraged.
The World Council is the principal policymaking body of UCLG. It comprises 342 representatives that hold a political mandate. The World Council that will elect the Presidency will be appointed by the General Assembly on 13 October in Daejeon.
The Presidency is elected by the World Council of UCLG, which will meet on 14 October 2022 in Daejeon.
Nomination of candidates for posts in the Presidency of the UCLG
UCLG has a Presidency composed of the President and up to 5 Co-Presidents. At least one of the above office-holders must come from an individual local government member; at least one must come from a national association and at least one must come from a member of the Metropolitan Section.
Nomination for the post of UCLG Treasurer
The Treasurer of UCLG is responsible for the oversight of the financial strategy, accounting and management of the Organization’s finances, and chairs its Financial Management Committee.
The Treasurer is a prominent figure in the Organization, with strong ties to the Presidency, and can fulfil a representation role.
WHO CAN PRESENT A CANDIDATURE?
· Candidates should represent a paying local government member of UCLG.
· The member represented by the candidate will be up to date with the payment of their membership fees.
· According to the UCLG Constitution, the members of the Presidency shall hold a local electoral mandate; they must also be at the head of a) a local government or b) a national association of local governments.
· In order to advance in gender balances, female participation is strongly encouraged.
HOW TO PRESENT A CANDIDATURE TO THE PRESIDENCY?
Candidacies must include:
· Short biography
· Manifesto or motivation letter specifying the post they would like to fulfil
· Statements of support from 6 different local government members from at least 3 different Sections
· Explicit acceptance of the Terms of Reference for the UCLG Presidency
HOW TO PRESENT A CANDIDATURE TO THE TREASURER?
Candidacies must include:
· Short biography
· Manifesto or motivation letter
· Statements of support from 6 different local government members from at least 3 different Sections
Candidacies must be presented by 1 August 2022 and sent by email to: esaiz@uclg.org
