Disaster Risk: A View of the Asia-Pacific Region

The risk of natural disasters and the problem of climate change are particularly acute in the Asia-Pacific region. Taking into account the urgency of this topic, UCLG ASPAC decided to hold a Council Meeting 2019 within the framework of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Forum. The event took place on September 5-6, 2019 in the Makati City (Philippines) under the theme “Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities”.

By the kind invitation of Hon.Mar-Len Abigail S.Binay, Mayor of Makati City, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov and Vice-Mayor of Kazan Evgeniia Lodvigova took part in the event.

During plenary sessions and open discussions, participants discussed how national strategies enable proliferation of local DRR strategies and how to increase the resilience of cities.

Among the participants of the Forum were Dr.Tri Rismaharini, Mayor of Surabaya and President of UCLG ASPAC, Dr.Bernadia Irawati, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, Li Mingyuan, Mayor of Xi’an, Madeline Yorobe Alfelor, Mayor of Iriga City and others.
