Yesterday, on February 16, the second day of the UCLG MEWA Retreat came to an end. During thematic sessions of this event, international and regional organizations had the opportunity to share their activities and areas of work and explore possible options for cooperation.
At the session "Strong Collaboration in SDGs Practices" dedicated to joint actions to localize the SDGs, UCLG-Eurasia was represented by Projects Coordinator Tansylu Nurieva who made a report.
In her speech, she highlighted that the regional section took part in the preparation of the Voluntary National Review of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Russia. It was also noted that UCLG-Eurasia actively conducts learning workshops as part of its activities: “In March last year, UCLG-Eurasia held the first online training on the topic “Localization of the Sustainable Development Goals”. This seminar emphasized the importance and role of local governments in achieving the SDGs on the ground and addressing urban issues,” said Tansylu Nurieva.
At the end of the speech, a learning seminar on localizing the SDGs to be conducted in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic, was announced. It was noted that this training is intended for staffers of structural units of the Bishkek Municipality responsible for external relations, the development of public spaces, the improvement of the city, the social sphere, economic development, housing policy, etc.
The session was also attended by Martino Miraglia, UN Habitat SDG Localization and Local Governments Human Settlements Officer in Nairobi (Kenya); Aslihan Albostan, Officer of the UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector Development; Boris Tonhauser, Coordinator of the CEMR International Partnerships Team, PLATFORMA Executive Advisor; Agnes Bikart, Senior Manager of Metropolis; Stefano Marta, Coordinator of the Territorial Approach to Achieving the SDGs of OECD, etc.
