Yakutia May Become the First Republic to Join UCLG

On June 22-23, 2018, the Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia visited the city of Yakutsk. During his visit, Rasikh Sagitov took part in the III International Conference “Cities and People: Communication and Digitalization”.

This conference is a platform for discussions on the issues of sustainability of urban systems, the implementation of new campaigns in the development of urban economies and the formation of a healthy climate for an effective interaction among all the participants of the urban process.

This year, the theme of the conference “Communications and Digitalization” brought together representatives of local authorities from different countries and international experts to exchange experiences and disseminate achievements in the development of the urban environment, economy and management in an epoch of digital environment.

During his stay in the capital of Yakutia, Rasikh Sagitov met with Aisen Nikolaev, Vice-President of UCLG, Head of the Sakha Republic. Aisen Nikolaev expressed his intention to continue actively participate in UCLG. He noted that Yakutia as a region is interested in the UCLG activities.

On June 23, Rasikh Sagitov took part in the national Yakut holiday Yhyakh-2018, which was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Platon Oyunsky, an outstanding state and public figure, philosopher, founder of the Yakut Soviet literature, scholar philologist.

The opening of the festival was attended by more than 15 000 people. After the official part there was a rich cultural program: concerts with the participation of folk groups and sports competitions.

While saying his opening speech, Aisen Nikolaev noted that Yhyakh is the largest national holiday in the world.
