The 200th Anniversary of Grozny: From the Ancient Fortress to the Modern Metropolis

On 5 October, 2018, the city of Grozny celebrated its 200th anniversary. Valentina Shumlyanskaya, Member of the Expert Council of UCLG-Eurasia, took part in the Day of City.

In the framework of the holiday there were a large-scale exposition, craftsmen, national fight competitions, a culture and sport festival. The most memorable event of the Day of City was a massive wedding: 200 couples simultaneously got married in the central city park.

The capital of the Chechen Republic has been significantly reconstructed. Today, Grozny is a modern, flourishing city with a rich history.
