Bishkek Develops to the West and to the East

Aziz Surakmatov, Mayor of Bishkek, elected in this August actively strengthens international and inter-municipal relations with China and Great Britain.

On 19 October, 2018, Aziz Surakmatov had a meeting with Jiang Zhigang, Mayor of Yinchuan. During the meeting, the mayors discussed the possibility of renewing the partnership between Bishkek and Yinchuan. The same day, a meeting was held between Almaz Baketaev, First Vice-Mayor of Bishkek and Li Baoshui, Vice-Mayor of Jiaozhou. The discussion was focused on the construction of the zone of trade and economic cooperation in the city of Jiazhou.

On 25 October, 2018, Aziz Surakmatov held the negotiations with Robin Ord-Smith, British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kyrgyz Republic. The Bishkek Municipality is interested in cooperation with the UK Department for International Development in the area of developing the strategy “Bishkek – a smart city for everybody”. The Mayor of Bishkek noted that the project is very important for the citizens and now the Municipality is working to create a comfortable and safe environment using the digital technology.
