The day of national cultures in Irkutsk

On the 3^rd of September Irkutsk was hosting the festival of “The national cultures Day”. The organizers of the event were the information policy management for public relations and mass media of Irkutsk administration/ Over 17 national cultural centres took part in the event, the representatives of city administration, the mayor of Irkutsk, Viktor Kondrashov.

The idea of the festival is popularization of the national cultures, the support of the ethnic and cultural dialogue between different nationalities living in Priangarye (Lower Angara region).

Over 120 nationalities currently live and work in Irkutsk. Civil organizations, united on a national basis, have existed for a long time in Irkutsk. Far away from their homelands people preserve and develop their national culture and its centuries-long traditions. Many of the Irkutsk national unions have over a decade history.

The festival has become traditional in Irkutsk.

At the opening ceremony dedicated to “The national cultures Day”, the Mayor of Irkutsk, Viktor Kondrashov handed in the commemorative tokens “Irkutsk -350”

The cultural bands of Irkutsk as well as national cultural centres gave concerts during the event. One of the major events was the exhibition-fair of arts and crafts products. The highlight of the festival was the presentation of the national cuisines. One could not only taste the scrumptious and exotic viands of different national cuisines, but also learn how to cook them. A huge festival cake was baked in honour of the event.
