Cities of UCLG-Eurasia, including Arkhangelsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Perm and Rostov-on-Don, took part in the international online conference on the preservation of the memory of the victory over fascism in the World War II through twinning of municipalities.
This online conference was organized jointly with the All-Russian Congress of Municipalities and Rossotrudnichestvo and united representatives of municipalities and public organizations of Russia, Belarus, USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Israel and Slovakia.
Opening this event, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the All-Russian Local Self-Government Development Association Viktor Kidyaev highlighted: ‘The year of 2020 is a special year for many sister cities since they are linked not only by inter-municipal diplomacy and joint economic and cultural projects, but by historical events of bygone times as well’.
Viktor Kidyaev also emphasized that local governments in all countries were always interested in prosperity of their cities and villages: so that people could live and work in comfort, receive quality services. Then, territories will develop. Sister cities play a big role in this process. One can only welcome the development of such good-neighborly contacts. “Municipal diplomacy is not loud, but humane, and therefore the most effective. Through inter-municipal cooperation, we will jointly assert the truth, memory, values of good and justice. We will celebrate exploits and good names of heroes”, he said.
