The Second Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) took place on July 9-11, 2019 in the city of Yekaterinburg. The GMIS Summit aims to support the Sustainable Development Goals. Its main theme this year is “Nature-like technologies – biometric design and bionics”.

More than 2000 participants from 40 countries, including Russian and foreign officials, heads of large companies, leading experts and scientists in the field of industrial production took part in the event.

Within three days, about 40 events such as panel discussions, seminars, and presentations of startups took place in Yekaterinburg. The topics for discussion were the challenges of the “Industry 4.0”, the fundamental changes in production, education and supply chains that are associated with the use of artificial intelligence, robots, Big Data, the industrial Internet of things, 3D-printing and other end-to-end technologies.

The future of outer space and aerospace industry was also one of the main topics of the summit. The participants of the specialized industry session noted that the global aerospace industry is undergoing fundamental changes that are related to the orientation towards the use of innovations and digital transformations.

“It is only through dialogue that we can build dynamic partnerships, show thought leadership and deliver on the promises of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, said UNIDO Deputy to the Director General, Hiroshi Kuniyoshi. “Everyone’s knowledge, experiences and know-how are vital. The partnerships that begin this week can provide the right dynamism, cooperation and resources to work towards ‘the world we want’”.

GMIS-2019 is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit is the first forum in the world to establish global production planning, share best practices, dialogue and decide on how to shape the future of production and promote transformational ideas aimed at achieving inclusive sustainable industrial development. By bringing together all relevant stakeholders, GMIS aims to create a global consensus on key issues related to production.
