Izhevsk – Intercultural City

More than 10 years the city of Izhevsk has been participating in the Intercultural Cities project initiated by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

The Intercultural Cities programme helps cities to devise such strategies cutting across institutional silos and mobilizing leaders, policy officers, professionals, businesses and civil society behind a new model of integration based on the mixing and interaction between people from different ethnic, religious and linguistic backgrounds.

The program helps cities create a governance model that empowers all community members, regardless of their origin or status, and will also benefit from emerging market ties; break down walls between ethnic groups, build trust and ensure unity and solidarity.

The Intercultural cities network provides expert and peer support to cities which chose to learn how to better manage diversity and benefit from the diversity advantage.

Today, more than 100 cities participate in the program, including Barcelona, ​​Geneva, Munich, Paris and Izhevsk.
