In Kazan, on September 21-24, 2020, the international forum Kazan Digital Week-2020 took place. On September 23, during the Forum the round table called “Smart City: Experience of the Innovative Development of Transport Infrastructure and Urban Mobility” was held. It was moderated by President of UCLG-Eurasia, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

During the round table mayors of major cities of China, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Iran, Moldova, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan shared their practices in the implementation of the Smart City concept. Among them are Mayor of Izmir (Turkey) Tunç Soyer, Vice-Mayor of Hangzhou (China) Ke Jixin, Mayor of Chișinău Ion Ceban, Mayor of Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan) Altay Kulginov, Mayor of Krasnoyarsk (Russia) Sergey Eremin, Mayor of Yakutsk (Russia) Sardana Avksentieva and others.

Talking about the experience of Kazan in transport, Ilsur Metshin highlighted that active reformation of transport service in the city has started since 2006. The optimization of the route network, renewal of the rolling stock and introduction of innovative technologies have become the key areas of work. “Today, in Kazan, a unified route network interlinking all four types of transport and working according to a single schedule and tariffs has been developed,” Ilsur Metshin said. He also added that due to regular renewal, Kazan has the youngest rolling stock of the city passenger transport in Russia. The average age of the public transport fleet is 4,5 years.

Ke Jixin, Vice-Mayor of Hangzhou, told about the digitalization of the transportation process in Hangzhou. 127 urban motorways have been built in the city. To facilitate the monitoring of the traffic, in Hangzhou, the digital management of the city has been created. It allows to track the number of passengers in transport, movement of public transport, congestion of parks and others.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, the government of the country is seeking to find new ways to increase the passenger traffic in public transport. Mayor of Izmir Tunç Soyer told that the system of an entire ticket has been introduced in the city. “A single ticket is issued for all types of transport, and it is valid within a certain time. Thus, we focus citizens’ attention on using the public transport, making it more convenient,” Tunç Soyer noted. In addition, more attention is given to creating spaces for cycling – parks, public gardens are being set up, the number of cycle tracks in increasing.

Mayor of Nur-Sultan Aktay Kulginov told that the Face Pay system has been introduced in the city’s public transport that allows to pay fare in a contactless way. “We have moved from cards to the next phase – the system of absolutely contactless fare payment method. For us this is a great breakthrough. Especially this has been relevant during the pandemic of the coronavirus infection when it has been necessary to minimize contacts,” Altay Kulginov noted.

Mayor of Krasnoyarsk Sergey Eremin told about the practice of phased introduction of digital technologies of urban transport systems management in the city, with the help of which specialists literally look into the future: create the model of road situation change with the appearance of new traffic junctions, roads or with the adjustment of the traffic scheme.
