MOSCOW IN THE UN URBAN PROSPERITY INDEX

Москва в Индексе городского процветания ООН

Moscow ranked first in urban infrastructure development and quality of life in the "Urban Prosperity Index" of the UN-Habitat program, said the mayor Sergey Sobyanin in his blog concerning the report.

The capital won in terms of infrastructure development, scoring 83.2 points; second and third place went to Hong Kong (78.16 points) and Paris (76.3 points). Researchers assessed the quality of life in Moscow at 68.33 points; the Russian capital surpassed Singapore (67.21 points) and Hong Kong (63.43 points). Moscow is in third place behind Singapore and Toronto in the global ranking of megacities.

"Perhaps the results obtained will cause some surprise and even distrust among some experts. But we are so accustomed to enjoying our city's benefits that we often do not realize what level of development Moscow has achieved in recent years," commented Sergey Sobyanin in his blog.

"The Urban Prosperity Index" is a universal ranking developed by the UN-Habitat program to assess the quality of sustainable urban development. During the year, experts compared the 50 largest cities globally, and the analysis included the final ranking of 29 cities, including Moscow, Singapore, London, Paris, Madrid, Sydney, and others.

Localities were evaluated in Economic Productivity, Infrastructure Development, Quality of Life, Equality and Social Inclusion, Environmental Sustainability, and Governance and Legislation. The document specifies that the full version of the report will be published on March 31.
