The Monotowns Development Fund has announced the results of the annual ranking of monotowns for 2019. The city of Naberezhnye Chelny has opened the TOP-10 Rating. The ceremony was held online at the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO on November 17, 2020.
The speakers of the session were Irina Makieva, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF, General Director of the Monotown Development Fund, and Andrei Sharonov, President of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO. The event was also joined by the leaders of more than 300 monotowns in Russia, including Mayor of Naberezhnye Chelny Nail Magdeev.
‘This is the first city to receive the status of a priority development area. Today, on the territory of almost 40 residents, more than 15 billion investments have been attracted to the city’s economy and over five thousand jobs have been created. They actively attract investors, actively work with the fund. Naberezhnye Chelny – bravo! ‘, Irina Makieva said announcing the results of the rating. She also recalled that VEB.RF has already started working with 18 large monocities to develop the urban economy.
The TOP-10 rating includes cities that demonstrated an outstanding socio-economic development last year. The rating of monocities has been carried out since 2016. It is based on 17 indicators. Among them are an assessment of the interaction of the city with development institutions, indicators for the development, the quality and availability of infrastructure, an assessment of the economic situation in a single-industry town.
The rating helps to identify the strongest and most promising aspects of leading single-industry towns, as well as to determine the most successful projects to improve the quality of citizens’ life. Subsequently, the leaders of the 2019 ranking will become mentors for other Russian monotowns within the framework of the MONOGORODA.RF Mentoring project. They will share their experience in attracting investments, developing the urban economy and the urban environment.
