NIZHNY NOVGOROD AND YEREVAN MAY BECOME SISTER CITIES

Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Yury Shalabaev met with the delegation of Yerevan on the eve of the City Day. The Mayor stressed that Nizhny Novgorod has common ground with Yerevan.

"Armenian culture is very ancient, one of the oldest in the world. Yerevan has recently celebrated its anniversary - 2,800 years. Nizhny Novgorod also has a rich culture and traditions. We can cooperate in many areas - education, culture, social policy, sports, socio-economic relations. I hope that in the future we will sign a twinning agreement and continue to develop our bilateral relations," the Mayor of the city added.

First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Levon Ogannisyan stressed that there is mutual understanding and desire to expand the partnership between the two cities.

"We gladly accepted the invitation to take part in the festive events dedicated to the Day of Nizhny Novgorod. We have a very busy programme, there are many interesting meetings ahead. And, of course, it will be interesting for us to walk, to enjoy the city, its beauties. As for working together, I think we should go beyond the cultural sphere. Among the promising directions are the social sphere, relations between our youth, trade and economic links," he said.

Let us recall that on the eve of the City Day, Mayor of the city Yury Shalabaev met with delegations from the sister cities of Minsk, Novi Sad, Sukhum, Bukhara, as well as from Yerevan. Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma Oleg Lavrychev and representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Nizhny Novgorod Sergey Malov attended the meeting.
