Novosibirsk is a City Without Frontiers

An annual forum aimed at creating a comfortable and accessible environment for all the citizens is taking place in the city of Novosibirsk these days. There are three sections of the forum: technological initiatives, volunteering and accessible environment. According to the organizers' expectations, the direction “Volunteering” will attract a lot of attention. It is difficult to overestimate the role of volunteers in the social sphere. It is thought that the forum will give an impetus to the volunteering movement in Novosibirsk.

“Together we have to create the conditions for people with disabilities to realize their potential. This applies not only to ramps and special elevators for low-mobility people. Creation of a comfortable environment is a wider concept: it is necessary to change public consciousness, remove barriers in communication and help special categories of the population socialize”, - said Anatolii Lokot, City Mayor.

The Forum is a place to discuss a large number of topics: disability, rehabilitation industry, architectural practices. It changes the philosophy of citizens within the urban space in terms of convenience and comfort, helps to find solutions to problems and like-minded people. Every year, the forum brings together an increasing number of active citizens who want to make the city more accessible through their projects.

A distinctive feature of the third forum is its scale: in total, about 400 events will take place in the framework of the forum. More than 25,000 Novosibirsk citizens and visitors are expected to attend the event.

In Novosibirsk, there are already the successful inclusive projects. There are the unique social theaters, which allow people with disabilities to realize their talents. In social theaters, they play with the professional actors. This year four performances will be shown.
