Alexandr Vysokinskiy, Head of the City of Yekaterinburg, and Susannah Price, Head of Communications of UN-Habitat, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Before the beginning of the ceremony that took place on September 3, 2019 Alexandr Vysokinskiy warmly welcomed the representatives of the inspection commission for the celebration of the UN-Habitat World Cities Day. According to the head of the city, the Ural capital has long earned the right to hold such large-scale events.

“Yekaterinburg is the center of Russia, the capital of one of the successful regions of the country. We express our gratitude to UN-Habitat and to the leadership of the Sverdlovsk Region, headed by Governor Evgeniy Kuyvashev, for the confidence. The success of the city is due to the success of the region, and Yekaterinburg justifies such a high confidence. Our city has the necessary infrastructure and experience for holding large-scale international events,” the head of Yekaterinburg emphasized.

Before the signing of the Memorandum Susannah Price, Head of Communications of UN-Habitat, pointed out the ideal geographical location of the Ural capital. According to Ms.Price, it will be the first Forum ever held at the junction of Europe and Asia, at the intersection of air and trade routes.

“On behalf of Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, I thank the head of Yekaterinburg for his welcome. For us, the World Cities Day is the most important event, and we are committed to build a long-term cooperation with the Ural capital,” said Suzanne Price.
