Kazan's experience in preserving the historical environment was presented at the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in China

The event was attended by about 100 experts in heritage preservation.





Kazan is taking part at the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The International Forum is being held these days in the city of Fuzhou, Fujian Province in eastern China. An additional event “From Fuzhou to Kazan – a leadership program in the field of World Heritage” was held during the session, at which the experience of the capital of Tatarstan on preserving the historical environment was presented.

The main speakers were representatives of the cities of Fuzhou and Kazan – the host city of the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2022. Ruslan Galiakhmetov, Head of the Department of International and Inter-Municipal Relations of the Kazan Executive Committee, spoke about the peaceful coexistence of people of various nations, faiths and cultures in the city. The main topic of the report was historical and architectural complex of the Kazan Kremlin.

The “Preservation and development of the historical center of Kazan” program was also presented, thanks to which succeeded in preservation of the historical sites in the center. Ruslan Galiakhmetov said that the restoration works of the historical sites of Kazan is carried out regularly.

A discussion took place after the speeches. The participants discussed measures to support urban communities in preserving the historical environment that became vulnerable during the coronavirus pandemic, as a result of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Chinese representatives shared information on the holding of the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, and also wished Kazan a successful implementation of all events next year.
