UNACLA decided to enhance activity

UNACLA (United Nations Advisory Committee on Local Government) discussed the possibilities of activization of its work at its annual meeting, held in Naples on September 2, 2012. According to the latest decisions of the Advisory Committee it is now chaired by the President of UCLG and Mayor of Istanbul Kadir Topbash. It is necessary for UNACLA to become a body which brings the position of the local authorities of the world to the focus of the UN Secretary General and the General Assembly. Thus, local authorities will be able to be heard by the international community and will influence decision-making processes at the global level.

According to the new reference terms the Advisory Committee will be significantly expanded. It is assumed that the Eurasian section of UCLG will be represented in the committee by 4-5 mayors of cities.
