ООН проведет 58-ю сессию комиссии по положению женщин с 10 по 21 марта в Нью-Йорке

The United Nations will celebrate the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) from 10 to 21 March 2014 in New York.

CSW is the principal UN global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. This year’s priority theme will be: “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”; the review theme will be: “Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work”.

In light of the importance of this year’s priority theme and the expertise of local governments, the UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality will request to deliver an oral statement reminding the contribution of cities and regions to eradicate poverty and advance women’s empowerment, as well as advocating for a higher contribution of local and regional governments to the Post-2015 development agenda. Information on the state of this request will be provided as soon as available.

The UN has informed that, because of increasing demands on limited space, it has become necessary to reduce the numbers of attendees to CSW sessions from civil society and numbers should be kept to a minimum.

UCLG has possibilities to register up to 14 delegates. Should you be interested to participate, please contact the Secretariat at women@uclg.org before 22 January. Members will be registered on first come first served bases.  All delegates would need to cover their own costs to the meetings

If you are planning to attend the CSW in New York with your national delegation, we would be grateful to receive information on the period that you are planning to attend.

As the meetings approach, the Secretariat will provide you with content briefings concerning topics of specific relevance for local authorities.
