On the 8-11 September, 2009 took place X World congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities on the theme: “Revitalization of Historical Centers: How to involve all social actors?” in the City of Quito.

The congress was organized by Quito City municipality together with the Organization of the World Heritage Cities; its scientific program is worked out by Getty Conservation Fund. The Congress convoked 320 participants from 70 cities of the world.
Within the framework of the scientific program of the congress following events took place:
-    poster session
-    student session
-    special seminar for mayors
-    meeting of regional coordinators
-    two group discussions

Also the participants enjoyed interesting cultural program of the host-city.



The results of the General Assembly were:

1. Election of new Board of Directors of the OWHC. In result of serious competition the following cities were elected to the Board of Directors:
- Kazan (Russia)
- Quito (Ecuador)
- Melaka (Malaysia)
- Vienna (Austria)
- Lyon (France)
- Bimster (Netherlands)
- Puebla (Mexico)
- Aranjuez (Spain)

2. The mayor of the city Bimster Harry Brinkman was elected as President of the World Organization.

3. 8 cities struggled for the right to hold the next Congress. Two cities reached the final: Warsaw (Poland) and Sintra (a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal). In result of the second round of voting, Sintra was declared the winner.

4. Session of Euro-Asia regional section OWHC has passed within the limits of the World Congress. At session the Regional coordinator of Euro-Asia section Rassikh Sagitov has presented the report on section activity for the last years. The reports of representatives of the cities of Safranbolu (Turkey), Istanbul, Melaka (Malaysia) about heritage preservation in their cities were presented at session. The participants of Euro-Asia World Heritage Cities regional meeting unanimously elected the Vietnamese City of Hue to be the host of the next Euro-Asia meeting in 2010.
