11th World Conference of Historical Cities started on June 10th in the city of Konya, Turkey.

This event dedicated to the topic ?Living Cultural Heritage in Historical Cities? will last since June 10th to June 13th. The conference will focus mainly on how to meet the modern needs of residents and protect the cultural and historical structure of cities. The event gathered about 600 guests. This year, in addition to city mayors and authorities, experts, academics, architects and urban planning students have been invited for the first time to present their projects at the conference.

Masood Khan ? an architect trained in Pakistan and the USA who has worked for nearly two decades in the conservation of cultural heritage ? was invited as a key-note speaker.

General Secretary of UCLG Euro-Asia Rassikh Sagitov is attending the conference at the moment. 

The conference is expected to include both a series of informative meetings and cultural program (a trip to the center of Anatolia, visits to the Çatalhöyük and Mevlana sites).

Konya City has a long history. The place where the city is located was inhabited thousands years ago. This city is called Iconium in Greek documents. Also some references to this city can be found in the Bible. Konya was renamed a few times during its long existence. Now it is a modern city with lots of sightseeing such as historical monuments and various architectural and religious sites that are part of world tangible heritage.
