June 24, 2008 ? Seminar Series I ?Partnership for SustainableDevelopment? for the Black Sea Region countries was completed inIstanbul.


The Seminar Series I ?Partnership for Sustainable Development?, which began on June 14th, was completed o June 24th.

The Euro-Asia Regional Section of the UCLG was represented by the participants from organizations and local governments of the Russian Federation (Kazan, Taganrog), Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.   

Measures that may ensure rehabilitation and protection of the Black Sea were brought into focus at the seminars. A special attention was paid to the significance of cooperation between the countries of the Black Sea basin. Partnership was considered a key issue in solution of such urgent problems as pollution, transportation, lack of integrated policies in the Black Sea countries, financing etc. The seminars included lectures on theoretical subjects, case studies and study visits. In average, participants had four or five sessions per day. 

As a part of practical studies, a role playing game ?Stratagem?, a problem-solving game offering participants to provide sustainable development for a virtual government, was hold during the seminars. The game was aimed to showcase the importance of good communication and partnership between different stakeholders and provided everyone with a chance to gain some practical experience of decision making and effective distribution of investments.

During study visits the seminar group attended traditional Turkish fisheries protected by the government, the 4th International Recycling Fair, and Energy museum.
   
In the course of the seminars the participants were offered a rich cultural program. On Wednesday, June 18 they had a boat trip at the Golden Horn strait, visited Rustempasha mosque, Egyptian bazaar, pet market and tasted national Turkish meal in a local restaurant. The last day but one a dinner on Bosporus cruise was organized.

The participants will meet again at the Seminar Series II, which will be held in Venice since September 29th to October 7th
