The Organizing Committee of the 3d International Conference of Euro-Asia World Heritage ?ities held a meeting dedicated to preparation for the Conference.  

The decision to hold this event in Indonesia was made at the 9th OWHC Word Congress conducted in Kazan city (Tatarstan Republic, Russia) in June 2007. Previous regional Euro-Asia Conferences were held in Kazan, Safranbolu (Turkey) and Lijiang (China).

Besides, the Council of the Euro-Asia Section of UCLG will meet in a regular session in Indonesia during the Conference as well.

The mayor of Solo Joko Widodo heads the Organizing Committee. The Committee also includes the heads of municipal services, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of tourism of Indonesia, and the heads of the Association of local governments of Indonesia.

The Organization of the World Heritage Cities is represented in the Committee by the OWHC Regional Coordination for Euro-Asia, Councilor to Mayor of Kazan Rasikh Sagitov. He will also represent the organization of Unites Cities and Local Governments.     

In accordance with the decision of the Committee the Conference will be held on October 25-28, 2008. Its main topics will be development of cultural tourism and the questions and problems of intangible heritage preservation (carnivals, festivals, traditional dances and other examples of traditional culture) in cities under condition of globalization.

The event is expected to gather mayors, statesmen, experts, scientists, and representatives of international organizations from 35 Eurasian countries.

Special attention will be paid to the intangible heritage of the continent. The island of Java will present traditional clothing Batik, Javanese dance, Javanese puppet theater, and Javanese dagger keris. The puppet theater and keris have already been inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
Indonesian cities have great experience in development of cultural tourism. The participants of the Conference will be able to share this experience as well as experience of other Eurasian cities.   

The Mayor of Solo offered an intensive cultural program: visit to UNESCO Heritage sites  - Borobudur temple and Prambanan temple, participation in the traditional carnival, exhibitions of batik, keris- traditional dagger, Javanese masques, folklore music and traditional dances.
 
As adopted at the meeting, the official languages of the Conference will be Indonesian, English and Russian.

The Secretariat of the Euro-Asia Section of UCLG located in Kazan is functioning as the main coordinating party in the process of preparation to this international event.
