31 мая текущего года город Хабаровск отметил свое 150-летие.

May 31, 2008 ? the city of Khabarovsk (Russia) celebrated its 150-year anniversary.

Lots of performances, dance shows and sport competitions took place that day in the city.

Khabarovsk is the administrative center of Far East Federal District of the Russian Federation. The city is situated in 30 km from the border with China and in 6100 km from Moscow.

The history of Khabarovsk dates back to 1858. On May 31, 1858 a military post was built on the bank of Amur River. The post was called Khabarovka after a Russian pioneer Erofey Khabarov. Later it was developed into a big city.  Today it is a center of scientific and cultural activities held in this region. This population is 579 thousand (2005 est).

This celebration gathered officials from almost 50 Russian and foreign cities in Khabarovsk. On May 31 the Mayor of Khabarovsk Alexander Sokolov gave a state reception to the guests where greeting messages from the Mayor of Moscow Yuriy Luzhkov, Governor of Moscow region Boris Gromov and many other state authorities were read.  

The Secretary General of UCLG Euro-Asia Rassikh Sagitov also was invited to Khabarovsk and congratulated its mayor on behalf of our organization.

The city of Khabarovsk is a member of UCLG Euro-Asia since 2005. In 2006 the city was awarded a diploma of UN-Habitat ?For Maintenance of Sustainable Development? and in 2007 - ?For Effective Industrial-Economical Policy in the City? at the World Congress of United Cities and Local Governments held in Korea.
