International Volunteer Day

5 декабря – Международный день добровольцев

In 1985, the UN General Assembly, in a special resolution, invited governments to celebrate December 5 as the ‘International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development’.

According to statistics, in recent years there has been a steady increase in the number of citizens and organizations participating in volunteer activities. Among the most popular areas of volunteering is assistance for people with diseases, orphans, people in difficult life situations, retired people, etc.

Thanks to the support from the governments, volunteering has turned from a rare phenomenon into a dynamic social trend that spans the entire region, and volunteers are turning into an important tool for solving significant social problems. Today, as part of the celebration of the International Volunteer Day, thematic forums and special events are held in many Eurasian cities.

‘Volunteers were the first to respond to misfortune in the war years, they readily faced the challenges of time, helped to build large industrial enterprises, came to the aid of people who needed support in difficult times. Such versatility of the voluntary movement testifies to the inner strength and open heart of each of the volunteer. I sincerely wish you continued success in your noble activities! May service to society return good into your life. I wish you new achievements and reliable like-minded people!’, Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, President of UCLG-Eurasia, President of UNACLA, congratulated volunteers.
