8 апреля 2008 года в Казани прошло выездное заседание комитета покультуре и образованию Конгресса местных и региональных властей Совета Европы.

Culture and Education Committee of the Congress of Local and RegionalAuthorities of the European Council held its visiting session in Kazanon April 8, 2008.

According to Hilde Zach, the Head of the Committee on Culture and Education, Kazan is a perfect sample of intercultural and interethnic dialogue. These concepts are embodied in the neighbourship of a Muslim mosque Kul-Sharif and an Orthodox cathedral Blagoveschenskiy (Annunciation Cathedral) in Kazan Kremlin.

The Forum raised  such issues as strengthening of social tides, cultural identity of regions, active involvement of the youth in social life, possibility of cultural tourism development etc.

As usual the participants of the Forum issued a number of recommendations to be passed to the Committee of Ministers -  a decision-making body consisting of Ministers of Foreign Affaires representing 47 countries of the Council of Europe. The resolution adopted at the Forum will be sent out to all the members of the Council.

The Head of Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin read the message of Sergey Lavrov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. ?Taking into consideration its complicated history and peculiar geopolitical situation Russia has a really unique experience of coexistence and cooperation between various ethnic groups, religions and cultures?, the massage says.

The Vice Mayor of Kazan, a member of the Council of the Euro-Asia Regional Section of UCLG Ludmila Andreeva and the Councilor to Mayor, Secretary General of the Euro-Asia Regional Section of UCLG Rassikh Sagitov took part in the session.
