June 9, 2008 ? Secretary General of UCLG Euro-Asia and RegionalCoordinator for OWHC Euro-Asia Rassikh Sagitov, Deputy SecretaryGeneral of Istanbul Municipality Muammer Erol and Vice Governor ofIstanbul Feyzullah Ozcan met in Istanbul city hall.

Being one of the greatest cities in the world, Istanbul at the same time preserves a big part of cultural and architectural heritage of humanity. Istanbul has a rich experience in managing this heritage, its safeguarding, reconstruction and use in behalf of the city?s economical development. These facts suggest that active participation of Istanbul in the activities held by OWHC is extremely beneficial for the organization and its members.

Also Mr. Sagitov met with the governing authorities of the Municipal Department of Safeguarding of Istanbul Cultural Heritage. Mr. Murat Tuncay, Head of the department, spoke about the activates conducted by his department in the field of zoning and restoration of invaluable historical buildings of Istanbul.    

Mr. Sagitov also visited the Municipal Laboratory designed for examination of the condition of architectural memorials. It was noted that only big cities can afford such laboratories, and Istanbul is open for cooperation with other World Heritage cities of Eurasia in the area of preservation of heritage.
