July 4 ? 6, 2008, Astana City, Kazakhstan - International Assembly ofCapitals and Metropolises (IACM) will hold a forum ?Capitals of the XXIcentury: innovations and traditions in urban planning and architecture?

International Assembly of Capitals and Metropolises (IACM) in cooperation with the authorities of the city of Astana under the aegis of the Moscow Government will hold a forum ?Capitals of the XXI century: innovations and traditions in urban planning and architecture? in the framework of the 10-year anniversary of Astana City, the capital of Kazakhstan Republic.

The forum?s thematic scope has been determined in accordance with the goals of the IACM intermunicipal complex program ?City to city? for 2006 ? 2010 aimed to facilitate development urban sustainable development in such areas as municipal services, building,  energy supply, environment, urban transportation, road facilities, architecture, and improvement of public amenities.

The forum has set a goal to generalize the experience amassed by the cities, showcase the achievements in the field of construction and architecture, and work out necessary recommendations and common approaches for solution.   

This forum in Astana will provide an opportunity to introduce the youngest capital in the world, which will celebrate its first 10-year anniversary these days. During its first decade, a former country town Astana turned into a big megapolis with a fast growing economy and became a traditional venue for prominent events including international ones.

Participation in the forum has been confirmed by capitals and metropolises of Armenia, Belorus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and the Ukraine.

The president of Kazakhstan Republic Nursultan Nazarbaev and the mayor of Moscow, President of the International Assembly of Capitals and Metropolises Yuriy Luzhkov are expected to take part in the forum.
