The city of Arkhangelsk has become the member Euro-Asia section of UCLG.

On June 19, 2010 UCLG Euro-Asia General Secretary Rasikh Sagitov had a business trip that included a visit to the head of Arkhangelsk municipality, Mayor Viktor Pavlenko. The main purpose of this visit was to achieve cooperation between UCLG Euro-Asia and the city municipality.
The participants discussed the perspectives of interregional cooperation development in the framework of the visit. New agreements on participation of the municipality in UCLG Euro-Asia events were reached. Secretary General got acquainted with the cities achievements, its history that might be of interest to the international community in the future.
Arkhangelsk was founded by Ivan the Terrible in 1584. From the beginning of the 18th century till today the city is regarded as the major seaport of Northern Russia. It lies on both banks of the Northern Dvina River near its exit into the White Sea. Arkhangelsk is famous not only for industrial achievements, but also reach cultural and historical heritage. What is more the city bears the title of the City of Military Glory and is the holder of the highest decoration bestowed by the Soviet Union.
At the meeting with Rasikh Sagitov, the Mayor of Arkhangelsk signed and submitted the application paper for membership of Arkhangelsk city in the Euro-Asian section of UCLG.
Mr. Sagitov also went sightseeing during his trip and observed: The Arkhangelsk Lomonosov Drama Theatre, Pomorskiy State University, Arkhangelsk local history museum, Sutyagin House, All Saints Church.
In whole Secretary General noted that the trip was successful and efficient, what is more he estimated at his true worth the historical and cultural background and hospitality of the city.
