Yesterday, on April 20, a meeting of the Presidential Council for Local Self-Government Development was held via a videoconference. Ilsur Metshin, President of UCLG-Eurasia, took part in this event.

Ilsur Metshin put a special emphasis on the issue of international municipal cooperation.

“For 20 years, dozens of cities of our country have been actively working in UCLG-Eurasia. These are the municipalities that share best practices, implement and achieve the goals of sustainable development of territories”.

The President of UCLG-Eurasia also spoke about the support of foreign colleagues for election to the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA).

“I will literally briefly tell you about what happened at the World Council in November in Daejeon (South Korea), where municipalities from 140 countries gathered together. It was a pleasant surprise for us when our colleagues from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, China united to support Russia represented by Kazan: we were elected to the UNACLA that unites 300,000 municipalities”.

In conclusion, the Mayor of Kazan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to hold the next BRICS Summit in the capital of Tatarstan.

Recall that Ilsur Metshin was included in the renewed composition of the Presidential Council for Local Self-Government Development by Presidential Decree on April 19.
