The next meeting of UCLG Euro-Asia Council will held in the city of Irkutsk in September 2011

The session of UCLG Euro-Asia Section took place at 17th of November, 2010. There was chosen the place and dates of the Eighth Session of UCLG Euro-Asia. Alexey Almukhamedov, Deputy Mayor of Irkutsk, made an excellent presentation. He spoke about the City of Irkutsk, about its interesting and rich history, and beauty and features of Lake Baikal. At the end of his speech all the members voted unanimously to hold the next meeting in the city of Irkutsk, and it is not surprising as in 2011 Irkutsk celebrates the 350-year anniversary. We have got a great opportunity to hold our meeting in one of the most beautiful cities in Siberia to participate in the celebration and visit Lake Baikal, the largest source of clean water. Irkutsk is a historic city. It plays a prominent role in Russian history and in present-day country. Streets of it are like the slice of time where centuries layered replacing each other. Modern Irkutsk is a historic city which successfully combines the grandeur and originality of the historical center and districts of new buildings, intellectual and cultural traditions of a Siberian city with a modern industrial, scientific and educational potential.
