Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments"
Mayor of Kazan I.R.Metshin was re-elected the President of the Eurasian section of the World Organization “United Cities and Local Governments”.
Ilsur Metshin has been the President of the Eurasian section of UCLG since 2006. Today (July 6) the General Assembly of UCLG-Eurasia unanimously voted for his reelection for the third term, which is an indicator of high credit and success for the benefit of the cities of Eurasia.
According to the Secretary General of the Eurasian section of UCLG Rasikh Sagitov, the most important achievement of the organization over the past 3 years has been co-operation with the United Nations, which previously had worked only at the State level. The meeting of the UN leadership with mayors and members of the organization “United Cities and Local Governments” (UCLG) has opened the way for the cooperation. The Mayor of Kazan took part in the meeting as Co-president of UCLG, and the President of the Eurasian section of UCLG.
“The international community can not move forward without considering the opinion of municipalities, and the fact that Ilsur Metshin represented all local authorities of Eurasia at the meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is recognition of the activity of Kazan in the world”, - concluded Rasikh Sagitov. According to him, the main task of UCLG is to present the voice of local authorities in the global decision-making process. “Most importantly, it is now possible to increase the number of mayors members of the advisory board of the UN Committee on Local Government (UNACLA) up to 5”, - said the Secretary General of the Eurasian section of UCLG.
It should be noted that the General Assembly of UCLG-Eurasia took place as part of the Eurasian Cities Forum. Eurasian Cities Forum is a meeting at the highest level of local and regional leaders, heads of international organizations and leading experts in the field of urban management. Eurasian cities Forum “Heritage and Innovations” was held on July 5-8 in Kazan.
