Mayor of Kazan will meet with the UN Secretary General.

On April 23, 2012 a meeting of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and the mayors of the world`s leading cities is going to take place. Mayor of Kazan and Co-president of World organization of United Cities and Local Governments Ilsur Metshin has also been invited to take part in the meeting. In addition, mayors of such cities as Istanbul, New York, Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, Montreal and Jakarta will be coming as well.

United Cities and Local Governments and UN-Habitat are organizing a high-level meeting which will be dedicated to preparation to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012. Work of local authorities, their role in the development of international community and their contribution to sustainable development will be discussed. The Executive Director of UN-Habitat Joan Clos and the representatives of the Group of Friends of Sustainable cities will also take part in the meeting.

We must recall that Ilsur Metshin is the only Russian mayor who is a member of the UN Advisory Committee on Local Authorities (UNACLA). Mr Metshin was elected a member of UNACLA in April 2007.
