The Mayor of Safranbolu visits the Russian Spasskaya Fair in Elabuga

The Russian IV Spasskaya Fair in Elabuga was held during 19 -21 August 2011.

 According to the established tradition, the Fair is held in Elabuga’s reserved in the region of the Shishkinskiy ponds, the stadium "Youth" and the central streets in the historic district.

The fair presented an abundance of goods: jewelry, national costumes, fashion clothes (made of linen), down and feather products, wood painting, artistic weaving and ceramics (toys), Gzhel, artistic leather working, quilting and dolls, artistic stamping, engraving, painting on metal, metal lacework, bark products, glass, goods made of vine  and many more.

        The performance of the professional artists, folk and circus bands became a nice setting of the Fair. In the “Craftsmen city” the visitors could attend the workshops in souvenirs making. The products of agricultural enterprises as well as processing plants, and the producers of consumer goods were widely presented at the Fair.

         During the Fair the Festival of Chiming was held where the masters of bell ringing and church music artists from various Russian cities took part.

         The fair was welcoming the guest of honour – the Mayor of Safranbolu (Turkey), Nedjet Aksoy. Elabuga and Safranbolu are twin-cities. The head of Elabuga, Gennadiy Emelyanov and the Mayor of Safranbolu Nedjet Aksoy discussed the participation of the cities in the V International conference of the World heritage cities of Eurasia taking place in October 2011.

The modern urban policy is not only the preservation of heritage, but also the creation of new values. One of the modern mechanisms of the urban regeneration is modeling a creative city. Currently the active preparations for the conference are being held. The best world’s specialists in the issues of branding, design and heritage preservation are being involved. An exhibition will take place within the framework of the conference, where the cities and experts will present their innovative projects.
