Anne Hidalgo elected as Paris's first female mayor

Miss Hidalgo claimed 54.5 per cent of second round votes in the capital, comfortably beating her centre-Right rival, former government minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, who won 45.5 per cent, the polls suggested.

For many years Anne Hidalgo worked as a deputy mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, who held the post since 2001.

She took part in the elaboration of laws for Youth Employment, the Fight against Exclusion and Gender Equality. Highly committed to Equality, Anne Hidalgo chairs the Permanent Committee on Gender Equality of UCLG. Furthermore Miss Hidalgo is a member of the Executive Bureau and Co-President of UCLG.
