The International Conference of World Heritage Cities is a forum dedicated to the integrated safeguarding of tangible and intangible heritage in historical cities, especially in cities that are inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO, or whose intangible heritage expressions were recognized by UNESCO. Every two years the Conference gathers experts in the domain of the safeguarding of historical cities, equitable tourism and sustainable economic development, as well as mayors, politicians and statesmen concerned, and provides them with opportunities to exchange experiences and discuss problems in the field. The Euro-Asia section of the Organization of World Heritage Cities, which was founded in 2003, is the main organizer of the Conference. The first Conference was held in Kazan in 2004. The following Conferences we hosted by Safranbolu (Turkey) in 2005 and Lijiang (China) in 2006. |
