“Belt and Road Initiative” in Yiwu

Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia, took part in the Executive Bureau of the Asia-Pacific Regional Section of UCLG. The event was held in the city of Yiwu (China) on 21-23 May, 2019 within the frameworks of the “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI) that was unveiled by Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping in 2013.

BRI calls for the development of new mechanisms for regional economic partnerships, stimulating the economic prosperity of the member countries, strengthening cultural exchanges and ties in all areas among different civilizations, as well as promoting peace and sustainable development.

The meetings in Yiwu were held under the theme “Share Unimpeded Trade Opportunities & Promote Urban Win-win Development”. The participants discussed how to strengthen the efforts for achieving results in the field of sustainable development by exploring the possibilities of expanding trade zones, optimizing the structure of trade and exchanging innovative trade models.
