Opening of the New City of Arkadag in Turkmenistan

The opening ceremony of Arkadag took place on June 29, 2023. Arkadag is the first smart city in Turkmenistan with environmentally friendly transportation: electric buses and electric cars, smart parking lots, solar panels, wind turbines, etc.

Ilsur Metshin, President of UCLG-Eurasia, and Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General, were the guests of honor. After participating in the opening ceremony, the agreements between Kazan, Ashgabat and Arkadag on strengthening cooperation, as well as between Kazan and Arkadag on establishing twinning relations were signed. In addition, the above-mentioned cities were invited to further develop relations through involvement in UCLG-Eurasia’s activities. It was decided to work out the potential participation of these cities through the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in Kazan. It is planned that the parties will promote the development of new promising areas of cooperation and explore the possibility of developing and implementing joint projects.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Russia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Germany, Georgia, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Japan.
