Omsk is actively preparing to celebrate its 300th anniversary, which will take place in 2016. It is expected that this anniversary will be widely celebrated at the federal and international level.

The Secretary General of the Eurasian section of UCLG R.K.Sagitov as part of the celebration of the Day of Omsk took part in the preparations for the anniversary of the city on 4-5 August.

R.K.Sagitov had a meeting with the mayor of Omsk Vyacheslav Viktorovich Dvorakovskiy. The Secretary General congratulated him on his election as the mayor of Omsk and expressed confidence that under his leadership Omsk will properly prepare for the upcoming event and successfully hold the anniversary. Eurasian section has expressed its willingness to assist in the preparation of the international part of the activities of the 300th anniversary. The Secretary General of the Eurasian section of the “United Cities and Local Governments” Rasikh Sagitov expressed kind words to the residents and the Head of Omsk. According to him, pre-anniversary period is the golden age of Omsk since the region and the city come together to achieve a common goal and it is a great opportunity to draw attention of the federal center. And he wanted the city to take advantage of this opportunity so that people who came to see the celebration of the 300-year anniversary would say: “We are delighted to visit this legendary city of Omsk, we have heard so much about its uniqueness”.

One of the events which took place as part of the celebration of the 296-th anniversary of Omsk was planting trees in the Alley of Friendship. Mayor of Omsk Vladimir Dvorakovskiy and R.K.Sagitov planted a tree of the Eurasian section of UCLG in the park. The tradition of planting evergreen trees by delegations who arrive in Omsk for the celebration of the Day of the City is supported by the administration of Omsk for the sixth year in a row. The ceremony reflects the desire of residents and visitors of Omsk to consolidate plans for cooperation with partner cities, and to emphasize the inter-ethnic nature of inter-city and international cooperation. In this regard, representatives of national public institutions and cultural centers of different countries operating in Omsk took part in the ceremony. Evergreen trees are chosen as symbols of continuous development and growth.

Omsk is a founding member of the Eurasian section of UCLG since its foundation in 2004, and one of the cities which is extensively engaged in international activities.

Omsk, with the population of 1154 thousand people, is one of the largest cities of Siberia and Russia. The city is famous for the fact that it was officially considered to be third capital of Russia in 1918-1919, when the headquarters of the Supreme Ruler of Russia Admiral Kolchak were situated there.
